Icebreaker Chalets is based in Les Coches and La Roche, within the La Plagne ski area, with the traditional neighbouring village of Montchavin just below Les Coches.

Together, Les Coches and Montchavin offer a very different atmosphere from some of the larger purpose-built ski resorts. You'll find traditional Alpine architecture, restaurants and bars, local shops and services, while still having excellent access to the huge La Plagne and Paradiski ski areas.

This page is our guide to the area, with useful information to help you make the most of your stay. We'll be adding our recommendations for restaurants, bars, shops, activities and places worth visiting, along with menus and booking information where available.

At around 1,450 metres, Les Coches combines the convenience of a ski resort with the feel of a small Alpine village. Built using traditional wood and stone, it has a compact centre with restaurants, bars, shops and services, making it easy to get around during your holiday. 

For skiers, its location is particularly useful. The lifts take you up into the La Plagne ski area, while in the other direction you can head towards the Vanoise Express and cross into Peisey-Vallandry and Les Arcs, opening up the full Paradiski area. 

Les Coches is also well suited to families, with beginner areas and children's facilities locally; Montchavin–Les Coches holds the Famille Plus label. 

Just below Les Coches at around 1,250 metres, Montchavin is the older of the two villages and has retained much of its traditional Savoyard character.

Its pedestrian centre, narrow streets, stone houses, wooden chalets, chapel and working farm give Montchavin a particularly authentic mountain-village atmosphere. There are restaurants, bars and local services, making it well worth visiting during your stay. 

Montchavin and Les Coches are linked by the Les Coches gondola, so the two villages work very much as one resort area.
